Crooklands Turnpike Bridge #166

Attending a weekend conference organised by the Cumbria Family History Society in the Crooklands Hotel.  The talks are more local social history than genealogy. There was the most interesting talk on the impact of the motor car on  Westmorland and the arguments between the council and the newly formed Friends  of the Lake District over which roads should be tarmacked in the 1930s.  They are still arguing about motor vehicle access to tracks to this day. Amazing photos of Hardknott pass when it was a dirt track with old fashioned motor cycles racing on it - lethal.
Anyway I went for a walk at lunch time along the nearby Lancaster Canal which provided the opportunity to feature a previously un-blipped by me, bridge over  the canal.   I was interested to see that the hotel was installing solar panels, loads and loads of them, yes even in the rainy Lake District.
