The 1966 film “Born Free” was based upon the work done by Virginia Mckenna and her husband Bill Travers and told the story of an orphaned lioness Elsa being raised to adulthood and released into the wilderness of Kenya. As part of a year-long celebration to mark what would have been the 100th birthday of Bill Travers co-founder of the charity Born Free, a pride of 25 bronze life size lions is touring Britain. The lions are based on a real life lions with their stories and include the lioness Elsa on top of a 4x4 vehicle.  The wildlife charity is highlighting the problems facing lions whose numbers have declined for around 200,000 lions in Africa when the film was made to about 20,000 now and the possibility of becoming extinct within 30 years.
