The Lozarithm Lens

Woody Thursday (10th November 2022)

Woody Wednesday was cancelled at the last minute because it was raining, and reset for today. The main job was to find a home for seven ferns of two or three different kinds that I had ordered when on offer in early October and had been delivered last week.

My first attempt at a fernery was a flower bed between my car port and next door's garage wall, but the ferns didn't do too well there for some reason, so they were transplanted this year to a rockery area underneath a laurel bush. Unfortunately, they didn't do well there either, partly because of the weird weather conditions we've had this year, but also because the soil was too dry due to the laurel bush and other trees nearby taking all the moisture.

This morning Refna planted the new ferns into a more promising raised bed in a shady area of the Front Yard, with some in pots so they can be moved if necessary, and if this proves successful, ferns from the rockery will be transplanted again next Spring.

Ottilie Patterson - Baby Please Don't Go (1964)
Ottilie Paterson mostly sang with her husband Chris Barber's band but made this single with the Ivor Raymonde Group and with the harmonica accompaniment of the great Sonny Boy Williamson II, who had been over in the UK touring with the Yardbirds and the Animals among others as his backing groups. He is credited here with the composition but it was actually written in 1935 by 'Big' Joe Williams. A few months later in 1964 Them revived the song with rather greater commercial success.
Iggy Pop played this on his Confidental show of 6 November, to highlight Sonny Boy Williamson's contribution.
