Cross of Remembrance

Wigan cemetery is a designated Commonwealth War Grave and the Cross of Remembrance is a poignant reminder of those who gave their lives in service. This is a little extract  written by my uncle Fred who was killed in Belgium in 1945.

From “ Letters Home, dated July 1942

“I received your parcel when I came in about 10 o’clock last night, my mates told me about it and were waiting to see what was inside. On the parcel it said writing paper but we had a surprise when we opened it and found cake. It was quite welcome and not long before it was eaten…”
