Spring Ride - Day 5

After an overnight in Mount Maunganui and a visit to the Air Museum as we left then heading north then west to start heading back towards Wellington.
We stopped of briefly in Waihi where there is Martha's Gold mine and the Blip is of a statue from then the local kids used to play in the running warm water in the gutters which was pumped from the mine.
The Extra is the mine.
The mine had a slip where millions of tons cascaded to the base of the hole no body was injured as it happened in the night but its said it felt like an earthquake.
The weather was changing and as there was rain in the air the stop in Waihi was to suit up which was wise as we have steady rain for a couple of hours. We rode across country skirting around the top of Hamilton and discussed stopping in Raglan overnight but decided to move on. Eventually we found excellent rooms at Otorohanga with a decent pub to boot.
Although the weather had turned a little damp for awhile it was only a short spell of rain but the wind got up and made riding quite uncomfortable but worse was to come.
