... behind our back entry, captured from the steps.  It rained virtually all day--an advance on tropical storm Nicole, which made landfall early yesterday (Thursday) on Florida's east coast.  Rain should continue through the night, with a half inch (1.2 cm) accumulation.

We've been following the mid-term election results.  In the House,  the Republicans seem likely to win a small majority (ca.1/2 dozen seats)  But the Senate is currently at 49-49, with two seats outstanding.  If the Democrats win at least one of them, they will have a majority since Vice President Kamala Harris, who presides, could provide a tie-breaking vote if the count was 50-50. We are pleased that the Democrats have done as well as they have, because the predictions were gloomy.
