Friday

Had a call with LD first thing to discuss shaping the new committee, then decided to go and get the plants and window boxes I’d planned to plant up for A&N to take over with me. There followed a frustrating hour or so, where I set off for the garden centre but twice thought I could save time by going first to Morrisons then the Range to try and get what I needed. Of course they had hardly anything in and none of the right size boxes, so I had to go to the garden centre anyway (where they didn’t have the right size either - grr!).
By then I gave up and decided to just drive over to their house and leave the plants there til we could order the boxes online. Lovely countryside to drive through….the autumn colours make the rolling fields and woods look really beautiful.
When I arrived I looked round what they’ve done so far - always amazes me that adding furniture can make a place look bigger not smaller. Had coffee and watched Paisley enjoying her garden, then helped A in the kitchen a bit and she started making lunch. We walked along to the shop to get fresh bread (nice morning rolls, so that’s good), then home and had lunch chatting about things they need to do and to get. Looking at the map to see which of the nearby towns has which of the various big household stores and plans for Christmas etc etc.
N got ready to set off to work for the weekend, they’re hoping their move will shave some time off his long drive there and back. I stayed a bit longer to help A shift the stuff that will need to go into the shed when they get one to under their verandah, and to secure it with a tarpaulin (hope it survives this wind!), then we did more sorting and changing round of cupboards in the kitchen.
Left her unpacking clothes and I headed back home, getting in some food to make dinners to take on our Keilder forest holiday next week. Grabbed a bit of supper of leftovers before taking CMB to ‘Enough of Him’ at Musselburgh theatre. Very claustrophobic production, with a sparse set and all 4 actors on stage throughout, giving the audience the sense of being trapped in an increasingly toxic environment…very appropriate for this story of Joseph Knight, the slave brought to Perthshire who took his owner to court and won his freedom. Powerful stuff, with a lot of emotion and barely concealed fear, hate and violence, but cleverly staged and well acted.
Home …another busy day
