What's this?

It’s the inside of our pianola, which Peter serviced today in preparation for its move to the new house. It was built in 1925 by the Laffargue Piano Company in New York. That was at the height of pianolas’ popularity, before sales declined with the advent of other ways of making music in the home, like phonographs and radio. The stock market of 1929 virtually brought an end to the production of pianolas.

We were doubtful if we could fit the pianola into No 140, but thanks to MountGrace’s skill with the scale floor plans a solution has been found and the pianola is coming with us.
