African Lion (Panthera leo); male. I Blip this today because Blippers seem to like big cat photos.  This one lives in the zoo in Milwaukee along with his wives and cubs.
Everyone knows about lions so I won't use a lot of syllables to describe what you already know. So here's a few things you might not know:

1) Males can weigh near 400 pounds; females about 300 pounds.
2) Males are near 7 feet long w/out the tail; females 5 to 6 feet long.
3) Males are near 4 feet tall at the shoulder; females about 3 1/2 feet.
4) Lions can run 50mph in short bursts
5) They are not found just on the African savannah....there are some along the Barbary Coast, there are some in the Congo and there are some in Asia.

6) As a point of reference, the Siberian (Amur) Tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) is the largest cat in the world being 10 feet long from nose to tail and can weigh nearly 500 pounds.
