Montevideo

Yesterday we noted that on Monday December 18th 1939, Lorna Lloyd chronicled the first naval battle of World War II in her Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal, and now available as a podcast series with Lorna's great-great niece playing her great-great aunt). In the same diary entry, Lorna noted that the badly damaged German battleship Graf Spee took shelter in Monte Video (sic) following the battle.

We're delighted to have received this shot of Montevideo from ArcLight to add to our photo album of places that Lorna mentions in her war diary. Many thanks ArcLight!

Listen to Lorna's account of the fate of the battleship Graf Spee, and an associated news report, in Episode 4 of our podcast series.

As well as ArcLight, a couple of other blippers responded to our plea for more photos yesterday. These have now been added to our pipeline of pictures to post. The sharp-eyed will be able to work out the locations that we have been able to take off our list.

The order in which blippers send us these photographs is quite interesting. Who would have thought that we would receive a shot of Amritsar before one of Bolton, or of China before Belgium for example?

If you have a photograph(s) of any of the places listed below (that you have not blipped already), please do send it(them) to h.hall@napier.ac.uk and we will feature it(them) alongside the others that we have been blipping here since 13th July 2022. We will also add your name to our blipper credits list below. Thank you!
