ChairLift To Aßmannshausen

Day 2 Of The Workshop.

First up - a 2 and half hour outdoor exercise. We had to build a Heath Robinson type machine that would launch a little cable car -the cable car would knock over some skittles, a falling skittle would knock a hammer over which would launch a ball down a pipe, the ball would start a train which would knock a golf ball off the table, which would switch on a power switch which would start a windmachine which would blow an umbrella which would pull a rope, which would unfurl a poster.

I was on team cable car - I built the thing that holds the cable car on the "wire" (that was a kit)  and then I built the gondola.  Out of Lego. It was given some extra weight by filling it with marbles.  Our first test revealed a few structural imperfections and all the marbles.  My rebuilt and reconfigured gondola was much stronger.

It's surprising how quickly 2 hours passed.  Building & testing & refining.  The final live performance was quite nerve wracking.  Our start process ran perfectly.  My cable car held and the complicated gearing for starting it worked.  The middle section had a small malfunction but the rubber ducks setting off a dozen mousetraps were very funny.  The last section worked as well.

Look, that was the high point of the day.

The rest we'll skate lightly over.
