Intelligent Light

“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid
of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when
men are afraid of the light.”
― Plato

Bright. Erudite. My
new friend is intelligent.
You might see us enjoying
inspired conversation
long into the night. Earnestly
we discuss what is wrong
with the world  and how
to put it right.

I sip my wine
and my voice becomes more slurred.
All is light. Like
jigsaw pieces fitting themselves
into all the right places
questions answer themselves.
God, man, nature, all the joys,
all the woes and wailings
- I understand everything

then the sun rises
and darkness descends.
