Saalburg

Today we made use of a gap between the showers and visited the Saalburg museum north of Frankfurt.
Around 75 AC a first set of buildings was built, followed by a second set 10 years later (wiki has different dates). Around 90 AC a cohort fort was built, with modification later on, to grow big enough to hold around 2000 people. The fort was in use until around 260 AC.
In the second half of the 19th century archaeologists examined and reconstructed the fort, to become the most completely reconstructed fort on the entire limes. It now houses the Saalburg museum.
My main photo is a picture of the entrance gate, the first extra is the gate towards the west.
The second extra is a magnificent oak tree inside the cohort fort. Not as old as the fort, but me thinks several hundred years.
