Flood

Having been adamant we wouldn’t race around to leave too early, we ended up being ready and packed by 9am anyway so got on the road shortly after. We had decided to come home via Alnwick but getting there was pretty hairy as we came cross country and had several extended large puddles/floods to drive through as the rivers had burst their banks along a lot of the route. We managed pretty well until we got to Rothbury where the road was completely blocked by fast running quite deep water. Quite amazing to see, but luckily we didn’t have too long a diversion to get round it.
We spent a lovely couple of hours in Alnwick….most of it in the huge Barter Books second hand book shop in the old station. Bought some cookery and kids books and we had delicious cakes and coffee, then also bought some gorgeous boots in a country wear shop on the way between there and the car. We’ve had such a great week!
Stopped at Dunbar on the way home for a chat after receiving a couple of texts from L…..worrying issues to hear about but good to chat them over. Dropped V at home then managed to find a space to park and unpacked, got washing on and caught up on some life admin. Chatted to A on her drive home and planned what to do tomorrow.
