Today we visited Holy Trinity Leeds for the Gaia exhibition. Gaia is a 6.5 metre diameter replica of our planet, created using NASA imaging of the Earth’s surface. It is designed to recreate the ‘overview effect’ experienced by astronauts when they view the Earth from space, allowing people of all faiths and backgrounds to reflect on the extraordinary planet we all share. The installation aims to capture some of the emotions described by astronauts, which include feelings of awe for the planet, an understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment.
