Rainy Day Train Trip

Auckland to Hamilton and back again. We are travelling with a friend and our local Probus group. (We are on the waiting list, but this is a trial run for us to see what it’s all about.)

I seldom take the train these days, even less so for trips of a distance. But I remember train journeys from long ago — the rattle and clatter of the train on the tracks, the awkward jolting, the scenery rushing by in a blur.

It seems to me that most of today’s trains are all about getting you there quickly and with minimal fuss, not the journey itself.
