Hidden Pool

If I were called in
To construct a religion
I should make use of water.

Going to church
Would entail a fording
To dry, different clothes;

My litany would employ
Images of sousing,
A furious devout drench,

And I should raise in the east
A glass of water
Where any-angled light
Would congregate endlessly.

Water, by Philip Larkin

Went for a hike up the Amphitheater Trail in search of flowing water, and to see how things had changed from the last time I was there. At one point the trail cuts away from the stream, climbs for a bit, and meets back up further on. On a whim I decided to follow the stream along the rocks, and was rewarded by discovering this beautiful bit of ledge sheltering a deep pool. Something to remember for the summertime when the weather is hot!
