Flooding at the head of the loch

Although some places in England and Scotland had drought conditions during the summer, here in Argyll it  has been a very wet year, and a particularly wet autumn.

In Glendaruel the effect of that - including waterlogged soil - is sometimes exacerbated by the influence of tide and wind.

I remember that shortly after we came here, 30 years ago , Cathleen had to rush to the school where she had just become Head Teacher to get sandbags in place as the River Ruel backed up and overflowed and although I don't think things were quite that bad today, the combination of many days rain, a particular high tide and a strong south westerly resulted in this flooding, pictured on the west side of Loch Riddon  from the road to Tighnabruaich.    There was more flooding in fields further up the glen too.

There is also a SEPA flood warning  out for tomorrow , with more rain due so this is unlikely to abate for a few days, though there is a drier spell on the forecast horizon.
