Harakeke

Harakeke….. also known as Phorium tenax. Of course it is more familiarly known as “Flax”. Many clumps and varieties have, over time, been planted along the banks of the Taylor River. They are just starting to burst out in flower at the moment. Maisie and I were out walking in light rain early this morning. I managed to reach the thick, spear-like stalk with its emerging flowers to photograph it. To me the flowers are rather exotic and strangely beautiful.
