Valais Blacknose Sheep

An adolescent of this now famous, but rare breed of sheep, there are only about 17,000 registered in the world, mainly in Switzerland of course. We have only five in the village. The race can be traced back to the fifteenth century. However, it’s possible the current Blacknose sheep are descendants of a breed introduced to Valais already in pre-Roman times. It would appear that in the closed environment of Alpine valleys the breed has remained largely unchanged and it has to be the cutest of all sheep. I am hoping to get near one of the adults tomorrow, today they were not in the mood to pose for my camera!
