Sign of the times

This stone, the Jesus Saves stone, has been a landmark on the A939 North of Grantown for over half a century. Through several incarnations from Jesus Saves greenshield stamps (my favourite) to Jesus Saves the NHS it has been a familiar sight and has been regularly maintained by an anonymous painter. The origin of the tradition is obscure but one version is that the stone saved a motor cyclist who came off his bike here from certain death and he painted the stone in gratitude.

It seems sad that such a familiar and loved landmark should be changed as a result of a certain recent political decision - I suspect tradition will be restored before long.
