Another rider reported that he had seen Rasmussen in Italy in June 2007, a time when Rasmussen claimed to have been training in Mexico and therefore unavailable for drug testing.

He denied the claims at first by then confirmed them but cited "personal reasons" for the deception

In 2012 he confessed to doping throughout his career and retired from the sport
