Stubble!

The rescue hens are growing some feathers! I have been waiting for signs of this, and finally they have a definite layer of feather sheaths pushing through. This is growing by around 1/4 inch every day and I think it’s nearly long enough for the feathers to start emerging. It’s very remarkable when you think about it, such a complex structure emerging from the skin.
They will be happy to have a bit more insulation as we had our first frost last night, and a cold day.
