Christmas Market and a re-opening

We stumbled on a mention of a Christmas Market being on at Kilruddery House over the weekend, so off we went to have a look. We didn't give ourselves enough time to do it justice, but the time we had was good. Some really fine stuff on offer at the various stalls. All quite tempting, really, and we came away with quite a lot of goodies. We tried a couple of savoury crepes, which were quite nice but were a nit messy to eat. The main disappointment was being too late for the advertised mulled wine by the time we made our way to the café, but everything else was fine. The actual blip is part of a display in the book shop. The extras show the first space with stalls and a fine mural on one of the walls in the Horse Yard.

The other extra has nothing to do with Kilruddery. When Carl lived in Glasthule, The Eagles  was our local pub. In its glory days it was a wonderful place to be but it gradually went downhill and the last time we went there it was very very quiet and looked rather sad and had no atmosphere at all. It's been closed for quite a while and we thought perhaps it was gone for good, but then a few months ago signs of a makeover became obvious and then advance word of a re-opening appeared. It's now come back to life, re-named The Greedy Eagle and very much re-vamped.

They still haven't got their act totally together, less than a week after coming back to life. The food menu looks interesting and even a bit adventurous, but the kitchen isn't yet up to speed, isn't able to cope with demand, though the manager assured us it would be in full swing very soon. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to sample to food, because the kitchen had run out of speed by the time we asked. There are too many TV screens for our liking and it was rather noisy too, but I can see us dropping in from time to time, and we'll certainly give the food a try. A lounge boy we spoke to was a tip-top salesman, delighted to be working there and happy that Glasthule had once again got a choice of drinking establishments.
