With the old gas cooker disconnected and the pipe-end capped off, the last few bits of tiles could be removed. I'd done a few from higher up on the wall with a bit of wood shielding the pipe and the back of the cooker but didn't fancy finding out what would happen if a large clump of three layers of tiles landed on a very badly-arranged copper gas pipe, so left them. Fortunately these all fitted in a single trug, so can be properly disposed of in the rubble bin at the tip
