geology

Luke arrived last night! Hurrah! We have already finished one jigsaw together :-)

This morning, Sarah and Jess went off to Queensberry with Ian. The weather was a bit murkier than yesterday, but they had a good walk and came back here for coffee and cake and a good chinwag. Jess had another walk later on, and a swim in the Cairn, too.

This evening after tea we were back at Cample Line for a conversation between geologist Stuart Graham and artist and printmaker Sarah Keast, who also has a background in geology. They were discussing the geology behind the earth pigments used by Yelena Popova, whose works are currently on display in the gallery. Here Sarah is demonstrating the screen printing process using ink made out of a natural pigment (hematite from the Florence mine near Egremont in Cumbria) and a seweed-based glue.

The extra photo shows Sarah and Stuart in conversation. Here’s Sarah’s website
