View from the North Building

Today was the first day that the new North Building of the Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney Modern, was open to the public. This stand alone building and public art garden bring together art, architecture, landscape and galleries, with site-specific works by leading Australian and international artists.

Walking into this building is walking into the light. The clever and sympathetic use of glass maximises its relationship to its magnificent setting. My photo shows the view to the north from the entry level from which we see Garden Island dock yard, Woolloomooloo finger wharf and a roof garden with its best ahead if it.

There was a lot to love about the exhibitions and I was thrilled to see so much space dedicated to the work of Aboriginal artists from all over Australia, spanning many decades. I'll keep coming back here.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
