Happy Birthday Finland!

Finland marks 105th Independence Day. For Finns, Independence Day is not so much a time for fireworks and jubilation, but for reflection and gratitude for those who fought for Finnish independence. There are still an estimated 3,000 World War II veterans in Finland. Their average age is 97.

Leevi and Emma came in the afternoon. Our family tradition is to have raclette on Independence Day, although it is far from traditional Finnish food, and our panna cotta dessert was not any closer. But we did join 2.4 million Finn who watched the Presidential Reception from TV!
