St Mary’s Quad

A little trip down memory lane took me through the very historic St Mary’s Quadrangle of St Andrews University where I used to work. It is surrounded by many old buildings and the fenced off section of wall is all that remains of the gateway of a building destroyed by fire in 1727.

The Statue of Bishop Wardlaw is not old but it was he who granted a charter to establish a university in 1411 making it the oldest university in Scotland.

A bitterly cold day just above freezing but lovely and bright in the morning sunshine.
