Latecomers

On the way back from shopping for Christmas goodies, this flock of cranes came flying overhead, heading southwest towards warmer areas. They are very late. I suppose the warm autumn made them stay north longer than usual. 

I really can't remember winter ever arriving so late. Last night, the last summer flowers in our garden perished in the first frost of the season.

Now (at 4 P.M.), the sun ist setting already and the sky remains clear. This is going to be another freezing cold night.
