The importance of backups

When I was on the boat from Helgoland to Cuxhaven yesterday, my external hard drive started acting weird. Today, it could only be used “read only” and my MacBook was urging me to reformat the disk as quickly as possible. Fortunately I have a good backup, though restoring the data does take quite a bit of time…

During the reformat something went wrong again so I’m not trusting this hard disk any more. A new, more rugged one, has been ordered and should arrive Monday.

I am so glad I have backups in place!
