The Edge of the Wold

Coming Home

Our return home from a few days in East Yorkshire was perfectly though not deliberately timed to coincide with the sun dipping below Arnside from the Storth prom viewpoint.  It was cold when we left on Friday, but we weren't expecting snow in Arnside before Christmas.  The tideline has frozen and there are sheets of ice moving down the channel.  This is the coldest it has been since 2010 when even the channel froze.

We had left Gus in Grange with Sue (his second favourite human, I'm his third), but we had to get home first to swap the cars as he can easily get himself in and out of the Jazz without us having to lift him.

It was a frantic few days with calm interludes amongst family and friends.  The house we will be moving to has some major challenges to address, the scorching summer weather created problems that we could have done without.  Though we are where we are, and we found a possible way forward that was totally unexpected.  Back at base, we are still awaiting the go-ahead for exchange of contracts, it's a nervous limboland time that we can only hope will be resolved in time for Christmas.

And here I must make my usual apology for my absence from here and for being such a poor blip friend to those kind blippers who have stuck with me.  I shall try to do better in 2023, but until then I shall probably only dip in occasionally.  There is still so much more to do before we can move home.

When we do finally leave, this is one of the views I shall miss most.  It changes constantly with the tides, seasons and time of day: and there is nothing where we are going that could possibly compare to it.  However, there are new places, landscapes, and wildlife to look forward to and be challenged by and that will be good for me after so many years photographing this place.

Backblipped on Tuesday 13th December.
