After an enjoyable Christmas lunch, and catch-up, with some old friends in Perth we went this evening to see the film Living.

It has an impeccable pedigree starring Bill Nighy in a screenplay written by Nobel Prize winning author Kaziso Ishiguro based on the 1952 Japanese film Ikiru that was inspired by the 1886 Russian novella “The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy.

So no surprise that it is a profoundly moving film dealing with life and death. For those of us on the wrong side of 60, the majority in the audience, it is a little too close to our own lives. Many in the audience were in tears.
