Seashore Abstract

I went for a walk today at Wembury Point near Plymouth. The coast path here runs along a geological feature known as a raised beach. The rough, stubble fields beside the path are attractive to birds, including cirl buntings. Today I saw three! Down on the shore it was quite pleasant in the winter sunshine. The rocks are very varied in colour and shape. Their appearance also changes with the light and whether they are wet or dry. Often strands, but sometimes great masses of seaweed are thrown up by the tides. A single strand of seaweed lies across this rock and disappears into a shadow that looks as though it might be an entrance to an underground world.
