One day at a time

Scraps

Mrs S is prepping for Stovies. Molly is hopeful that we share.
Stovies is one of those wonderful ‘winter warmer’ dishes of left over lamb, floury potatoes (that break down a bit), gravy, vegetables, onions (so a bit like a thick stew), and a side of oatcakes.

You may wonder about the floor and those five tiles peeking out and the painted concrete (yes I know, it’s a job on the to do list for warmer days as I keep being reminded about by Senior Management). When we bought the house (built in 1939) this was an original feature of what was once, we think, a fireplace or perhaps a range. So we’ve kept it. When I asked local folk when it was built many people said ‘after the war.’ However there were four people living here at the 1939 census so it had been completed before 1st September 1939, a date fixed by the landowner in the Title Deeds.
