The Chess Players

The Chess Players sit on the very edge of the cliff.

Some say that they were turned to stone as punishment for sinfully and licentiously playing chess on the Sabbath. Others that they were creatures of the night indulging their (sinful and licentious) passion (for chess) when, caught up in the thrill of the game, they were caught by the rising sun’s rays and transmogrified into, err, stone.

There are many stories about the Chess Players, some not even created by the local branch of the Chess Marketing Board. They are chess-playing Gods or Ogres or Aliens. Or projections into our world from the Shadow Realm, or dinosaurs or geographical formations.

Whatever their story, the Chess Players sit on the very edge of the cliff, contemplating their next moves.
