The wizard

Enrique 'Quini' Castro González, ex Sporting Gijon and F.C. Barcelona player, meets the press outside Gijón's Jovellanos theatre. The occasion was the premiere of the film '"El Brujo", frente al espejo' '"The Wizard" in the mirror', telling his life story.

Some life it was, and still is. He won the 'El Pichichi' prize for Spain's top goalscorer three times with Gijon and twice with Barca.

Whilst playing for Barca, Quini was kidnapped and held for ransom for nearly a month before being freed in a police operation.

Tragically his brother Jesús, goalkeeper for Sporting Gijon, died while rescuing two British children and their father off a beach near Santander.

Since retiring as a player in 1987, Quini has been a regular presence on the touchline for Sporting Gijon, encouraging the players as they enter and come off the pitch. During this time he had to fight and win his own battle with cancer.
