Solstice/Montol

Sister arrived at 8.30 and yes I was still in bed! She settled Milkshake the cat in the bedroom then we had a coffee and a chocolate croissant before heading to the field with Oscar!
Come the evening we headed out for the second year of the celebration of the winter solstice ( Montol in Cornish!) All the people gathered just down from my house with  lanterns people had made for the procession. There was a very lively and loud Samba band which added to the spectacle. The procession was then led by the Samba band down into the village, along to the viaduct, then back into the village and along the main street before ending up on the village green where mince pies and mulled wine was consumed!
We didn't go to the viaduct but looked at the Advent windows along the main street. I loved the one that had a live dog as part of the decoration!
My favourite lantern was  the owl that led the procession - it was made by the lady in silver who set up this event last year. I think it will now be another Calstock tradition!
