Often perches prominently ....

.... is part of the description in one of my bird reference books about the (Australian) Eastern Osprey. We drove into Ballina this morning, across the Missingham Bridge over North Creek. Perched prominently, high on a lamp post over the bridge, was this Osprey. It very co-operatively remained perched while we parked and walked back onto the bridge to take some photos. It's a very impressive bird. With a wingspan of up to 1.7 metres, I think it's the 3rd largest Australian raptor, after the Wedge-tailed Eagle (2.1 m) and White-bellied Sea Eagle (2 m).
