It only takes one strike!

December Reflections: Day 23
Today’s Prompt: Orange

"It wasn't just the matches that were magic: I realised that people, working together for a purpose, could also achieve magical, magnificent things."

Finished reading 'The Little Match Girl Strikes Back' by Emma Carroll this afternoon. It's a retelling of a classic fairytale (which I actually didn't know but suspect that I'd prefer Carroll's version!) It just seems perfect for the current political and social climate - the strikes, the poverty, the rich getting richer while others have to choose between eating or heating their homes... it's very powerful and based on actual events. Children's literature should never be looked down upon, it can pack a punch just as powerful as adult literature, sometimes more so.

I loved this book and the illustrations (in black and red... apart from the orange flame!) by Lauren Child are fab.

Shopping finished, wrapping done, bags packed. Just going to chill and probably start another book this evening. I might read The Signalman by Charles Dickens. Classic Christmas ghost story :-)

More to follow on the book group shortly. In a nutshell I'm thinking of giving a prompt each month (with a few suggestions or ideas), people can then pick and read a book of their own choice over the course of the month and when finished give a little blip review/thoughts/recommendation etc. Sommat like that anyway. It's a bit too hectic for me to have thought it through properly yet as you can probably tell hehe.
