Hadn't fixed or condemned any of the hairdryers from the Hairdressing dept. for about three years - since before the coronavirus pandemic. Over that time they'd amassed a huge boxful, with straighteners and other electrical equipment. Made a start on them last Friday, not spending any great amount of time on them,  as they're not valuable items. Sorted a load, but the above is decidedly in the condemned category. One of the elements that's also connected to the blowing fan's motor, had shorted out and blown, which stopped the fan working. Unfortunately, the user didn't realise that whilst it was still switched on and appearing not to work, the other element was still heating away. Without any air flowing through, all the heat stayed mostly inside, nearly setting the thing on fire, before being switched off. Hence all the melted and burnt plastic bits above. All good educational stuff for our engineers, and the hairdressers.
