Roslin Castle

Went out walking today in Roslin Glen. Unfortunately the weather was a bit damp, but it didn't put us off. We also had to traverse a landslide!

Roslin Castle is, as you would expect, near Rosslyn Chapel (made even more famous by Dan Brown). The first castle at Roslin was built in the 1330s for Henry Sinclair, Earl of Orkney. The Sinclair, or St Clair, family were of Norman origin, and had held land in the Lothians since 1162. Built into the cliffs of Roslin Glen, it has remained at least partially habitable ever since.
The castle is accessed via a high bridge, which replaced an earlier drawbridge.
It was built near the site of the Battle of Roslin, where the Scots defeated the English in 1303 (sorry!)

When we arrived at Rosslyn Chapel the Fraser Nash car club were obviously out for a run as there were about 9 of them parked in the car park - no I'd never heard of them either, but hubby knows his cars! There was also an old carpet factory was near where we parked for the walk (the date stone said 1951).

We stopped in the hotel in Roslin for a bite of lunch, so all in all a good day. Hope you've all had good Sunday. If this link works you should be able to see more photos here
