Frustration
I like my cryptic crosswords - always enjoy a challenge but I hate guessing. Completely random. It's one of the reasons I never went anywhere near Wordle - "We've got a 6 letter word - guess what it is?". Emmm, I've got about a million ideas and no idea what you want.
One of the reasons I don't play cards is because I have no idea of HOW to play cards. The possibilities are endless and that scrambles me brain.
So, I'm hugely frustrated with my Xmas crossword.
Normally you have everything you need in a clue. You just have to crack the code*.
I think I need a bit of time away from this and a cold beer.
*For example -"Having lost identity, Coleridge confused artist" (2,5).
So a 2 word answer, 2 letters then 5 letters.
Confused could indicate an anagram.
Having lost identity. Hmm. Take the "id" (for identity) out of Coleridge.
We're left with "Colerge".
Anagram that and "El Greco" has to be the answer.
Quite straightforward.
