MUST BE KEPT DRY

The seawall at Prestonpans reminds us of the industry that gave the town part of its name. As early as the 1100's salt was being produced here using locally mined coal to fuel the fires under the pans.

Behind the wall was the last operational salt pan that closed in 1959.
