Sight Lines

I lead a sheltered life. I've never seen anything like this before, especially in the quiet car park of a country pub on Christmas afternoon. These two looked just like a couple of kids who had just got their new bike from Santa - and I guess that's pretty much what is going on: this is the wobbly ride to the end of the street and back and trying out the bell

I guessed what these vehicles are really for (it's not going to the pub), then looked them up to confirm. The visual images conjured by this section of the specification made me giggle...

"the driver-only center-cockpit creates exceptional sight-lines both ahead and to the periphery. The new steering position creates extra room for active arm and leg movement, and a new brake system gives drivers the option of traditional single-foot action, or rally-inspired two-foot performance."

...file under "more questions than answers", but you have to admire the commitment to hyphenation

Lurking just below conscious thought most of the time, the climate crisis is a constant undercurrent in our lives now - like tinnitus or a grumbling tooth - colouring our view of our own choices and our opinions of other people's lifestyle. Confronted with brash, noisy engines in a peaceful village, for no more reason than recreation, it would be easy to take refuge in pious disapproval. But 'people in glass houses' and all that - or at least people like us, with an oil-based heating system and a car that takes us on plenty of trips purely for leisure - we should live and let live, I think. And the cheerful exuberance of these young men illuminated a damp, gloomy Christmas afternoon with joy as well as any LED lights
