Season's Greetings

Another enjoyable day spent feasting with the in-laws.

In the evening back at home, this photo led to a wide ranging discussion about Christianity, Norse mythology, the pantheon of Roman gods, Catholicism and the intercession of saints, hierarchical structures, the various roles and purposes of storytelling in religious tradition, and of course, Big Bob and the Winter Holiday Potato

“What is Potato Claus like and what does he do? “

“He is nice. He doesn’t come into your house at night. He comes in the daytime. He rings the bell. Then he lets children choose their gifts out of a big book. Later, the gifts arrive on a truck from the post office.”

“Does Potato Claus ask if you have been a good child or a bad child?”

“No. He does not get personal like that.”
