A day in the life

Sad?

One of my responsibilities during the absence of my new neighbour is to water her plants and check the heating. She lives right next to the cows and I thought I might use a blip from here today. I did, since it was the only picture today, however sad it may look.

My landlord says he can't really understand why they don't use any of their other places to be. They have a sheltered space with straw to lie in, they have the rest of the field with grass, which they rarely use and they have a whole other field with grass and free space, where they almost never are. Instead they choose to stand around in the small area of mud, created by themselves. When the ground freeze it's even difficult for them to walk there. Still, that's where they want to be, often facing the same direction too.
There are twelve new-born calves, all very new and they haven't really started to explore the possibilities yet. They are very cared over by their mothers, a bit much some times it looks. One of the calves was being licked by its mother and the calf reacted exactly like small children can do when their mother is fussing too much, it turned it head away and tried to walk off several times but had to give up in the end and be thoroughly licked.
