O Tempora, O Mores!

Mrs Oons' frivolous extra pressie took me straight back to my Latin A-Level, and food for thought

Context first. Cicero is in the Senate, laying into someone who is actively plotting to overthrow the Republic.

“Do you not perceive that your plans are exposed, do you not see that your conspiracy has been recognised, held in check even now by the knowledge all these men have of it? Who among us, do you suppose, does not know what you did last night or the night before, where you were, what men you summoned, what plot you conceived? Oh the state of these times, the state of our morals! The Senate knows these things, the consul sees them; and yet this man still lives.”

Oh for the qualities of Cicero in Westminster today. Though Mr Speaker would probably rule the language unparliamentary.

“Government plans are exposed. Who among us, do you suppose does not know that you are destroying our people? What plot you conceived to destroy the NHS and sell it to billionaires? Oh the state of these times, the morals of the State! Parliament knows these things, yet this Government still lives.”

Puzzle clues with original text in the extra, if you want some homework. No? I thought not.
