Counting the cost

Our dishwasher packed in today. Have you noticed how electrical equipment has an uncanny habit of breaking down always at the most inconvenient time?
 
Some years ago a previous dishwasher flooded the kitchen floor just as my in-laws arrived. I arrived home from work to find my mother-in-law ankle deep in water as she tried to find the right tap to turn it off.
 
The space between Christmas and the New Year allows lots of time to look back over the year and, with some trepidation, into 2023.
