Swanning

I got the crockery, table linen and crystal belonging to my mother-in-law out of storage for my Second Elizabethan Era Christmas theme. This unusual fruit bowl used to sit on her sideboard. The waves remind me slightly of Hokusai's The Great Wave of Kanugawa. When swans are busking and powering through the water a big bow wave does form at their breasts.

I've searched to find out if the bowl represents a classical story but can't find one that fits exactly.
